The upcoming Tata Sierra has stunned the automotive world after achieving an extraordinary fuel-efficiency milestone during a certified endurance run. Known for its bold styling and next-generation powertrain, the Sierra has now added a remarkable economy record to its list of achievements.
A New Benchmark in Mileage
During a controlled 12-hour test at the NATRAX proving facility in Indore, the Tata Sierra delivered an outstanding fuel-efficiency figure of 29.9 km per litre. This run was monitored under strict conditions and has been officially entered into the India Book of Records for delivering the highest recorded mileage within a 12-hour window.
A professional testing team maintained consistent speeds to ensure the SUV operated in its most efficient zone. This steady-state driving environment helped highlight the true potential of the Sierra’s new petrol engine when pushed for maximum efficiency.
Powertrain Behind the Performance
The record was achieved using Tata’s newly developed 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol engine. This motor features advanced combustion technology, reduced internal friction components, and precise turbocharging—allowing it to deliver strong performance while remaining exceptionally fuel-efficient under ideal conditions.
In a separate controlled run, the same powertrain helped the Sierra reach an impressive top speed of 222 km/h at the same testing facility. While production models will have lower speed limits, the result demonstrates the capability and refinement of the Sierra’s engineering.
Real-World Expectations
Although the mileage figure has created enormous excitement, it’s important to understand that the result was achieved on a closed test track under perfect circumstances. Everyday driving — with traffic, uneven roads, and stop-start situations — will naturally produce different outcomes.
Still, the test highlights Tata Motors’ strong progress in next-generation petrol engine development and positions the Sierra as one of the most technologically advanced SUVs in its segment.
