Flagship season is back, and Honor is already making waves with the upcoming Honor Magic 8 Pro. Set to debut in China this month, I got an early look at a pre-production model to share first impressions.
This prototype runs the global version of Honor’s Magic OS 10, built on Android 16. Under the hood, it features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a top-tier camera setup, a refined lightweight design, and an enormous battery that sets a new benchmark for flagship phones.
Launch, Pricing, and Availability
The Honor Magic 8 Pro officially launches in China in October 2025 and is expected to reach international markets, including Europe, later this year. It will be available in Sunrise Gold, Sky Cyan, and Black. The device comes with 12GB RAM, 512GB storage, and a massive 7,200mAh battery in China. European models are likely to have a slightly smaller 6,270mAh battery due to regulatory limits.
In the box, buyers get a pre-applied screen protector, a clear TPU case, a 100W charger, and a USB cable—an impressive bundle compared to many other premium smartphones.

Refined Design and New AI Button
The Magic 8 Pro feels noticeably lighter and more comfortable than its predecessor. Smooth, curved brushed metal edges make holding the phone pleasant while maintaining a sleek aesthetic. The screen remains mostly flat with minimal corner curvature, striking a balance between contemporary flat-edge trends and ergonomic comfort.
A new multifunction AI/camera button on the right side stands out. By default, it triggers AI functions, but users can also assign it to control the camera or store screenshots in the AI Memories app. This feature makes it easy to catalog information—such as saving an Instagram post or quickly recalling events—without clutter.
Battery That Lasts
Honor has packed the largest battery I’ve seen in a conventional flagship, using advanced silicon-carbon technology to reach 7,100mAh while keeping the device lighter than last year. During my testing, the phone comfortably lasted two full days on a single charge, with nearly 20% remaining at the start of day three—an impressive feat that proves this isn’t just marketing hype.
Camera Excellence
Honor continues to impress with its camera hardware. The Magic 8 Pro captures stunning photos in portrait mode, low light, and zoomed shots. Its 50MP main, 200MP telephoto, and 50MP ultrawide sensors deliver excellent results in nearly every scenario. Zoom options—2x, 3.7x, and 10x—maintain clarity and color accuracy.
AI features enhance photography further, enabling slow-motion effects, motion trails, and stop-motion animation with just a few taps. Additional AI-powered recoloring modes like Romantic Blue, Golden Autumn, and Warm Sunset provide creative ways to enhance your images.
Even in challenging lighting conditions like the pre-dawn “Blue Hour,” the Magic 8 Pro outperforms many competitors, producing vivid, well-exposed shots with excellent dynamic range.
First Impressions
The Honor Magic 8 Pro is shaping up to be one of the most compelling flagship phones of 2025. Between its massive battery, refined build, impressive cameras, and AI-driven features, it strikes a fine balance between hardware and software innovation. Magic OS 10 on Android 16 adds polish and usability, making the phone a strong contender for photography enthusiasts and tech-savvy users alike.
Stay tuned for a full review and international launch coverage later this year.
