Australian buyers looking for a lower-cost alternative to the popular Kia Carnival are currently out of luck. The LDV Mifa people-mover has been temporarily taken off the local market, as the brand reassesses its position in the family van segment.
According to a statement from LDV Australia, the Mifa isn’t being discontinued but is “on hiatus” while the company watches how the people-mover category evolves locally. The update affects both the standard petrol Mifa and its all-electric counterpart, the Mifa 9.
Despite undercutting some rivals on price, the Mifa has struggled to make a significant impact in Australia. Sales figures show relatively low uptake compared with established competitors. In contrast, the Kia Carnival has continued to dominate the segment, capturing a substantial majority of buyers looking for large, practical family transport.
Over recent years, the petrol-powered Mifa has posted modest numbers, while the electric Mifa 9 recorded very limited deliveries. The lack of strong consumer demand appears to be a key factor behind the current hiatus.
LDV Australia has confirmed that support for existing Mifa owners will continue, with parts and servicing available through the official dealer network. However, the company has not yet provided a timeline for when the model might return to showrooms.
The Mifa initially arrived in Australia positioned as an affordable people mover option, aimed at families and fleet buyers seeking space and value. Its temporary removal highlights the challenges new entrants face in a segment long dominated by well-established models like the Kia Carnival and Hyundai Staria.
Looking ahead, several other Chinese automotive brands are preparing to introduce their own family-oriented electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to the Australian market. These future launches could reshape competition in the people-mover category, offering buyers more choice in the years to come.
