Mahindra Confirms XUV 7XO as the Name for the XUV700 Facelift
Mahindra has officially announced that its upcoming XUV700 facelift will carry a new badge: XUV 7XO. Set to make its global debut on January 5 next year, this updated model becomes the second ICE vehicle to adopt Mahindra’s revised naming strategy, following the launch of the XUV 3XO earlier in 2024.
First Look: Mahindra XUV 7XO Teaser Reveals Fresh Exterior Styling
Mahindra has released the first teaser images, offering a glimpse of the revamped SUV’s exterior. The updated model incorporates several visual changes:
- New 7-shaped LED DRLs that wrap around a redesigned headlamp cluster
- Trapezoidal LED lighting elements, giving the SUV a more modern signature
- Reworked tail-light design, echoing—but not copying—the styling of Mahindra’s XEV 9S electric SUV
- A refreshed grille that features an evolved interpretation of Mahindra’s iconic multi-slat look
Although the lighting and grille have received a major upgrade, recent spy shots suggest the XUV 7XO will retain most of the current XUV700’s body panels, keeping its familiar silhouette largely intact.
Interior: Triple-Screen Layout Expected
While Mahindra hasn’t officially showcased the cabin, industry expectations are strong:
- A three-screen cockpit layout—similar to what was seen in the XEV 9S and XEV 9e—may make its way into the 7XO.
- The SUV is likely to continue offering both 6-seat and 7-seat configurations.
- It’s still unclear whether Mahindra will introduce a 5-seat variant.
Given Mahindra’s recent focus on premium in-car tech, the XUV 7XO’s interior is expected to be a key highlight of the facelift.
Engine and Gearbox: Same Proven Powertrains Expected
Under the hood, the XUV 7XO is likely to carry forward the robust powertrains from the XUV700:
- 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
- 2.2-litre diesel engine
Both should continue to come with:
- 6-speed manual
- 6-speed automatic
- Optional AWD for the diesel variants
These engines have built a strong reputation for performance and refinement, so Mahindra is expected to maintain continuity here.
Price Expectation and Market Rivals
The new XUV 7XO will compete in the same segment as its predecessor, taking on:
- Tata Safari (with a petrol version arriving soon)
- MG Hector
- Hyundai Alcazar
Since the current XUV700 is priced between ₹13.66 lakh and ₹23.71 lakh, the updated XUV 7XO will likely sit slightly higher due to its new features and design enhancements.
